Realme is gearing up to kick off 2026 with a serious hardware flex. The company has officially locked the China launch date for its next performance-focused smartphone — Realme Neo 8 — and the early details suggest this one is aimed squarely at power users and gamers.
Positioned as the successor to the Realme Neo 7, which debuted in December 2024, the Neo 8 looks set to bring meaningful upgrades across display, performance, and design.
Realme Neo 8 China launch date confirmed
In an official post on Weibo, Realme confirmed that the Realme Neo 8 will launch in China on January 22 at 7 PM local time (4:30 PM IST).
Interestingly, the brand had earlier teased a January 12 event but limited that announcement to display-related details. The full unveiling is now scheduled for January 22, where the Neo 8 will debut alongside the Realme Buds Air 8.
165Hz Samsung OLED display takes centre stage
One of the biggest highlights of the Realme Neo 8 is its display. The phone is confirmed to feature Samsung Display’s M14 OLED panel, supporting a 165Hz refresh rate — a spec usually reserved for gaming-centric flagships.
This same panel recently appeared on the iQOO 15, and is known for improved brightness efficiency, lower power consumption, and longer panel lifespan thanks to updated luminescent materials from Samsung’s display division.
Adding to durability, the screen will be protected by Crystal Armor Glass (as translated from Chinese), offering enhanced scratch and drop resistance. Realme has also teased large R-angle corners, suggesting better in-hand ergonomics despite the phone’s premium build.
Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and bold Cyber Purple design
The Neo 8 is also confirmed to pack an ultrasonic 3D fingerprint sensor, capable of recognising fingerprints even with wet hands — a feature typically seen in higher-end flagships.
Design-wise, Realme is leaning into visual experimentation. The teased Cyber Purple colourway features a semi-transparent rear panel that subtly reveals internal design elements — a clear nod to the design language popularised by Nothing.
The rear also showcases Realme’s Awakening Halo lighting, an NFC label, and a cleanly integrated camera island, giving the phone a distinct gamer-meets-premium aesthetic.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 under the hood
On the performance front, the Realme Neo 8 is confirmed to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC announced in November.
The chipset already powers devices like the OnePlus 15R and Motorola Signature, and Realme claims the Neo 8 has crossed 3.58 million points on the AnTuTu benchmark — a figure that firmly places it in ultra-flagship territory.
Triple camera setup with 120x zoom teased
While full camera specs are still under wraps, Realme has confirmed a triple rear camera system, with one of the sensors capable of delivering up to 120x zoom. More clarity on sensor sizes and photography features is expected at the launch event.
Final words
With a 165Hz Samsung OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, ultrasonic fingerprint tech, and a bold transparent design, the Realme Neo 8 is shaping up to be one of Realme’s most ambitious phones yet. If pricing lands right, it could pose serious competition in the performance-flagship segment — especially for users who want cutting-edge specs without the traditional ultra-premium price tag.
All eyes are now on January 22, when Realme finally pulls the curtain back on the Neo 8 in China.
