After years of updates and redemption, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting another major upgrade — this time built specifically for the PS5 Pro. And the best part? It’s completely free.
Developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the update rolled out on April 8, bringing a significant visual and performance overhaul designed to fully utilize Sony’s upgraded hardware.
This isn’t just a minor patch — it’s a full enhancement pass.
The headline feature is support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), Sony’s AI-powered upscaling tech. It sharpens image quality by reconstructing visuals pixel-by-pixel, allowing the game to push toward 4K output without sacrificing performance.
On top of that, ray tracing has been heavily upgraded.
The update introduces advanced lighting, reflections, shadows, and ambient occlusion improvements using newer rendering techniques. According to the developers, this brings Night City closer to how it was originally envisioned — more immersive, more detailed, and far more dynamic visually.
But where things get interesting is in how players can choose to experience it.
The PS5 Pro version offers three distinct modes:
Ray Tracing Pro mode is all about visual fidelity. It enables every major ray-tracing feature and targets 40fps on VRR-supported displays (or 30fps on standard screens). This is the most cinematic version of the game.
Performance mode flips the priority. Here, the focus is smooth gameplay, pushing frame rates up to 90fps on VRR displays — making it one of the highest-performing console versions of the game yet.
Then there’s the balanced Ray Tracing mode, which mixes both worlds — delivering ray-traced visuals while targeting a stable 60fps.
That flexibility is key.
It lets players decide whether they want a visually stunning experience or ultra-smooth gameplay — something that wasn’t really possible when the game first launched back in 2020.
There’s also good news for subscribers. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue, meaning Extra and Premium members can jump into the upgraded version without any additional cost.
