PlayStation is turning players into part of the game. In a first-of-its-kind move, Sony has launched “Playerbase” — a global fan contest that gives gamers a chance to appear inside Gran Turismo 7.
The idea is simple but exciting — instead of just playing the game, one lucky fan will actually become part of it.
Applications are now live, and Sony is inviting players from multiple regions, including India, to take part. The process isn’t just about signing up. Applicants need to share their personal journey with PlayStation — what gaming means to them, how they’ve connected with the platform, and why they should be chosen.
From there, selected finalists will move into interviews before one winner is picked.
And the reward isn’t small.
The chosen player will be flown to Los Angeles for a professional scan, which will then be used to create an in-game character portrait in Gran Turismo 7. That appearance will be featured for a limited time, effectively placing a real fan inside one of PlayStation’s most iconic racing titles.
But it goes beyond just being seen.
The winner will also collaborate on designing a custom fantasy logo and vehicle livery, which will be permanently added to the game’s Showcase mode — meaning their creative stamp stays in the game even after their character feature ends.
That’s where Playerbase stands out.
It’s not just a contest — it’s a way of integrating the community directly into the game world. And Sony has already hinted this is just the beginning, with plans to expand the program to more PlayStation Studios titles in the near future.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking of applying:
The contest opened on April 7, 2026, at 7:00 AM PDT and will remain live until April 26, 2026, at 11:59 PM PDT. The winner will be announced in summer 2026, and their in-game appearance will follow later in the year.
Eligibility is straightforward — participants must be at least 18 years old and have a valid PlayStation account in a supported region.
What makes this move interesting is timing.
Gaming companies are increasingly focusing on community-driven experiences, but Sony is taking it a step further by literally placing players inside their worlds. It’s a shift from passive fandom to active participation — something that could redefine how players connect with big franchises.
For now, Gran Turismo 7 is the starting line.
But if Playerbase takes off, don’t be surprised if more PlayStation titles start featuring real fans — not just as players, but as part of the story itself.
